Students will be taught pinyin (Chinese phonics) and conversational Mandarin. Emphasis will be placed on learning and speaking Mandarin quickly to benefit those traveling to China for adoption, business or pleasure. Group dialogue is encouraged with immediate feedback on pronunciation and grammar by the teacher. Curriculum includes interactive computer CD-ROM's, audio CDs, and handouts.
Tai Ji Quan, or Tai Chi as it is better known, is an internal martial art developed by the Chinese which has been practiced for hundreds of years. Focusing on inner strength and energy, Tai Ji promotes health, improved balance, coordination, and circulation. This slow movement style of exercise is proven to both relax and energize the body and mind.
This class reviews and builds on the vocabulary and skills learned in the preschool class to begin building sentences. We emphasize conversational language such as greetings, asking and answering simple questions (such as what, who, how, where, how many). Basic Chinese characters are also introduced for writing. During each month one class focuses on cultural activities such as calligraphy, Chinese style watercolor painting, music, paper folding and paper cutting, etc. Through stories, dialog, games, crafts and other cultural activities, the children will gain confidence and improve their Chinese skills.
Each class is offered at more convenient times for school age children. We seek to combine learning and fun for an enriching education experience.
In the culture/dance class, the children will participate in Chinese dance and other cultural activities. The children are instructed in the basic movements of several traditional Chinese folk dances by an experienced Chinese dance teacher. Dance is a valued part of education as it develops coordination, balance, flexibility, posture, and rhythm. It also enhances mental well being and provides relaxation.
This class, with caregiver participation, focuses on the basic Chinese vocabulary such as numbers, colors, shapes, animals, family members, foods, toys, etc. We also do Chinese crafts, games, folk songs and dances. This is a fun and educational environment where children play and learn while developing a keen interest and strong foundation for Chinese language and culture at this critical developmental age.
